How Passport Power Works
How RouteWise ranks passports by real visa-free access — and why "best passport" always comes with a disclosed methodology.
What counts as "visa-free"
RouteWise counts a destination as visa-free for a given passport if it requires no visa in advance — this includes visa-on-arrival and eTA (electronic travel authorization), which don't require an application process, but excludes e-visas and standard visa-required destinations, which do.
How rank and percentile are calculated
Every passport we track is ranked by its real visa-free destination count, from a real passport-index dataset. Rank and percentile are computed relative to every other passport in our dataset — not a fixed scale — so a passport's position can shift slightly as global visa policies change and our data is refreshed.
Why we never say "best passport" without data
A passport ranking without a disclosed methodology is just a marketing claim. Every RouteWise passport page shows the real destination count, rank, and percentile behind the number, so you can judge the claim yourself rather than take our word for it.
